Amman / Syria : 24 people have been sentenced to death penalty for deliberately spreading wildfires in Syria.
The wildfire, which broke out suddenly in the wild in Syria last yea, has spread to 3 neighboring provinces.
Seeing this, the people living in the respective areas left the area with their relatives and possessions. Nevertheless, wildfires have caused great damage.
The government also reported that 280 cities and villages were affected by the 187 wildfires that followed, destroying 32,000 acres of forested farmland and burning 370 homes to ashes.
The huge wild fires caused millions of dollars of losses in several cultivated plots mainly apples, citrus, olive trees, etc. that many poor farmers rely on to supplement meager an this has been livelihood of many people.
Ther wild fire also damaged the state-owned tobacco company which has been a mainstay of country's economy of the coastal area.
Following the investigation into the cause of the wildfire, the police arrested 24 people and produced them in court, claiming that the wildfires were deliberately spread and the 24 people involved in this.
The Syrian judiciary has officially sentenced 24 people to death penalty following a court order just issued later.
